Thank you for your support of Austin Voices!

Because of your support over the past year, we have been able to help thousands of AISD families with housing, food and other basic needs. We have trained over 140 new parent leaders to be change-makers in their communities, with 32 of them become state-certified community health workers. We have helped schools improve attendance and enrollment, as well as recruit new mentors, volunteers and community partners. We have written grants that have helped campuses bridge crucial funding gaps. We have provided opportunities for parents, teachers and students to speak out about crucial issues, including gaps in mental health services and staffing shortages on their campuses. All of this is with one goal in mind . . . to make sure that EVERY child in Austin has equitable educational opportunities that prepare him or her for a lifetime of success. THANK YOU for joining us in this mission and providing the funding that supports our amazing Austin Voices staff!

Austin Voices Programs and Initiatives

Austin Voices for Education and Youth is currently focusing our work of strengthening schools and expanding opportunities for youth by organizing around and implementing four goals:

  • Encouraging School Reform by organizing parents, students, teachers and community members into community-based planning teams that create “Community Schools.” AVEY supports 21 schools in Austin, as well as campuses in Dallas and in other Texas cities.
  • Building a new generation of young leaders through after school and leadership programs.
  • Supporting families to reduce social and economic barriers for students through six school-based Family Resource Centers at Burnet, Dobie, Martin, Houston, Navarro , and Webb serving over 6,000 families annually with wraparound supports.
  • Training parent leaders through our Community Block Leader and Promotora programs. Over 140 parents over the past three years have become leaders on their campuses and in their communities, including 32 who have received their state certification as Promotoras (Community Health Workers).
  • Providing community and campus events that build bridges and provide resources. Every year, Austin Voices holds over 200 events, from campus planning dinners and monthly community partner luncheons to health insurance and vaccine clinics to large resource fairs, including HopeFest, which brought together 4,235 people in the St. John community for a day of resources and celebration.
  • Working at the state and national levels to build support for public education, including essential funding, meaningful assessments and sustainable community schools.
