AVEY has been awarded a $2.5 million federal Full Services Community School grant to support the Lanier HS Vertical Team and a grant, in partnership with Education Austin, to support community schools in the Reagan HS Vertical Team, from the AFT Innovation Fund and the National Education Association. The Lanier grant, beginning in October, 2015 and continuing for 5 years, will help AVEY open a new Family Resource Center at Lanier, support the existing FRC at Burnet MS, and pay for Community School Coordinators and adult education classes at Lanier, Burnet, Cook ES and Wooldridge ES.
“With this funding support, we are hoping to see 11 fully-functioning community schools in north Austin by June, 2016,” says AVEY Executive Director Allen Weeks.
