Austin Voices teamed with Education Austin as the plenary presenters at the 18th annual AFT Center for School Improvement Leadership Institute on Jan. 21-24, 2016. Teams from school districts around the country came for four days to do intensive work around challenging school improvement issues. AVEY and Education Austin were joined by Raul Sanchez, Principal of Webb Middle School and Terrence Eaton, Associate Superintendent for Middle Schools in Austin ISD. Randi Weingarten, President of the American Federation of Teachers, recognized Austin Voices and Education Austin for their example of partnership and innovative work on community schools. Teams also got to enjoy a record snowfall during the institute.
On January 26, 2016, Austin Voices and Education Austin presented with Dr. Paul Cruz, Austin ISD Superintendent, on the “Austin Experience with Community Schools as a Turnaround Model” at the TASA (Texas Association of School Administrators) Midwinter Conference.
