Starting in November, 2015, administrators and community partners, including the El Paso ISD Superintendent and school board trustees, have visited Reagan HS and Webb MS to learn about creating community schools in their own district. AVEY Executive Director Allen Weeks visited El Paso in January to continue conversations around ways to support three new community schools there in Fall, 2016. A key community partner, the El Paso AFT, is acting as facilitator of the effort in El Paso.

Update: Austin Voices began working with four schools in EPISD: Bowie HS, Guillen MS, Hart ES and Zavala ES in August, 2016. The four schools have surveyed families and teachers, held two community-wide partner meetings, and collaborated together to hold the “United as One! Festival” on December 3, bringing together 900 attendees and 50 exhibitors for a day of music, food, games and resources. The district has hired a new district-level community school coordinator, Simon Chandler, who began work at the beginning of November. Partners in the project include Project Vida, El Paso AFT and the United Way of El Paso.
