Superintendent Pat Forgione announced his retirement for the end of this school year, to take effect in spring 2009. The newly-selected Superintendent will be expected to step in very quickly to manage several tough issues. It will be beneficial for our new leader to have as much background information as possible about priorities across the district. Austin Voices in collaboration with the E3 Alliance and AISD is working to engage the Austin community in a dialogue about the community’s priorities for the strategic direction of the school district during this time of change. We will accomplish this by:

  • Holding 25-30 facilitated small group discussions throughout Austin
  • Gathering the priorities for the district’s future from each individual small group discussion
  • Create and Present a report to the AISD Board of Trustees and Superintendent to inform their strategic planning

Focus:

  • Engage a diverse group of stakeholders across race, age, and income about the education Austin public schools provide
  • Building reliable groups in communities across Austin, which can be called upon to support and offer advice for our schools in the future

Format:

  • A two hour meeting (possible second meeting, if participants are interested)
  • 8-12 participants in each discussion
  • Facilitated by a volunteer community leader
  • Food will be provided
