Austin Voices would like to highlight some of the amazing people in our community who are taking action to strengthen our public schools. We will award four scholarships on April 8, 2010 as a way of celebrating some of the remarkable leaders in our community. Two of these awards will be for AISD high school students and two will be for parents who have demonstrated great leadership in improving AISD schools. Each scholarship award amount is $1,000. The four award winners will be honored by Austin Voices at the Shout Out Awards Ceremony on April 8th.
Use of Scholarship Award
The student scholarship can be:
- Applied to education-related expenses at the college, university, or certified job training program of the youth’s choice.
- Used over several semesters.
- Used anytime within the next three years.
The parent award can be:
- Applied to the parent’s own education-related expenses at a college, university, or certified job training program.
- Applied toward their child’s education through a special college savings account.
- Contributed as a donation to their child’s school.
To be eligible for a Shout Out Award, parents and students must meet the following criteria:
- The student or the parent’s children must qualify for free or reduced school lunch programs.
- Student nominees must be in their junior or senior year in an AISD high school during the 2009-10 school year.
- Parent nominees must be a parent, grandparent, or guardian of a child in an AISD school.
Nomination forms are due on March 10, 2010. The four award winners will be notified by phone on March 31st. All other nominees will be notified by mail by April 5th.
